Intelipac Client: Large retailer seeks eco friendly garment cover

Date: 22/05/2008

Background

Intelipac has been working with one of its large retail clients to come up with a more environmentally sound garment cover. The large retailer is responsible for the distribution of a very large quantity of clothing garment covers each year and a solution was sought to make a significant improvement in the 'eco-friendliness' of the existing line.

Intelipac studied the various possibilities and decided that the most effective method of improving the 'eco friendliness' of the existing line, without introducing significant additional cost was to use post consumer waste within the raw materials. Using such content does not come without its problems as Intelipac have found in other packaging categories. Using PCW often leads to a product odour or in more serious cases, a reduction in quality and strength therefore compromising the overall product performance.

Solution

Intelipac and one of their long established partner factories came up with a garment cover that contained a significant percentage of PCW but not 100% and the results were very positive. This allowed the large retailer to openly advertise the move to 'eco covers' to its customers without introducing any significant costs to the business.
