Environmental Packaging

Intelipac has always been renowned for fresh thinking and innovative solutions, and we are immensely proud of our reputation as a fully eco-ethical company that leads the way in our chosen field.

For example, we are arguably one of the market leaders in the bags for life/bags for resale market in terms of volume and accreditation.  And that’s good news for our clients, as we are able to deliver state of the art bag solutions at a great value price.

Please read below to find out more about our environmentally friendly products.

Natural cotton shopping bags

Intelipac can provide almost any shape of design depending on your requirements. The cotton can range from a very light 80 Grammes Per Square Metre up to a very sturdy 310 GSM. All these bags are hand made in India in our manufacturing site which is state of the art and a great environment for people to work. This means the bags are made with pride and care, hence our reputation for consistent quality across the range.

Organic cotton shopping bags

Following the success with M&S and over £1m unit sales in less that 3 months, we continue to develop solutions in the full range of cotton that are made using the organic process. This organic cotton process involves four certificates for every manufactured consignment we bring to our clients. The bags are hand made and the quality is very visible on all designs we can produce.

Fairtrade cotton shopping bags

Intelipac is a Licensee for Fairtrade for the production of cotton shopping bags. We provide these in the UK for ASDA, along with their organic range. The Fairtrade Foundation is the independent non-profit organisation that licenses use of the FAIRTRADE Mark on products in the UK in accordance with internationally agreed Fairtrade standards.

This means that all parties in the supply chain are smaller independent operators who are treated fairly and paid a fair price for their goods and services. The positive result is that these providers tend to use natural and traditional farming and production methods, supporting both eco and ethical trading for the solutions that carry the mark. A percentage of all profit made on Intelipac Fairtrade bags, as with all Fairtrade products, goes back to the producers in the country of origin.

Jute shopping bags

Intelipac provides a full range of ethically produced Jute bags. We can offer a range of linings including a laminated one to provide a protective layer against liquids in your shopping to a natural cotton lining which provides a softer feel bag that is also environmentally friendly. Intelipac’s site for jute manufacture is recognized by India’s government sponsored Jute Industry Board as a key manufacturer conforming with all standards and rules set out by them.

Juco bags

In 2007, Intelipac’s jute and cotton manufacturing site launched a product based on cotton interwoven with jute.

The result has been a very attractive and sturdy textile to make bags with that also allow for high quality print and a clean looking low cost alternative to cotton or jute.

Non-woven PP bags

Intelipac has been producing a range of durable and attractive non woven polypropylene shopping bags for over 4 years.

The most recent solution was provided for ASDA which is a fold away model that can carry up to 25kg in weight and fold away to a small purse size package to store in the car or handbag.

Plastic vest carriers

Whilst Intelipac strives to reduce the use of the very common and popular supermarket vest shaped carrier, we still provide an eco friendly option for our clients. For some of our clients we now provide a range of bags made from 100% recycled plastics which has a positive impact on carbon footprint measures for our clients.

We still also retain that the shipping of plastic carriers is far more effective and efficient than paper or cotton bags since you can place literally hundreds of thounsands in a 20 foot container, compared to typically 50,000 cotton bags or 100,000 paper bags.

Recycled PET (Polyester) bags

This is one of the most innovative shopping bags to reach the high streets in 2008. A fold away shopping bag range made from 100% recycled plastic water bottles. The raw material comes from the worlds leading source of polyester, Taiwan. The beads are fed into a material conversion process and the textile is then dyed and prepared according to client requirements. The result for bags is a ‘parachute’ material bag that folds very small and is very neat yet can carry over 20kgs in weight.

Nylon bags for reuse

Nylon bags are a low cost, attractive and durable option for clients wishing to reduce plastic bag use without offering too high a price on bags for resale.

Intelipac provides a full range of solutions in terms of varying shapes, handles and print.

Eco friendly suit covers

Intelipac provides two very large retailers with their garment and suit covers. These used to be made from virgin PEVA (vinyl) but due to the desire of the retailers to be more eco friendly, we asked to explore a more suitable  eco version. The result was a cover produced using up to 50% recycled content. We found that 100% recycled content compromised product quality and integrity.

Reducing our carbon footprint

At Intelipac, we are totally committed to global environmental issues. In 2006, our range took on a totally new turn when we introduced the first ever 100% organic cotton shopping bags for Marks & Spencer.

They were a huge success! Featuring models Twiggy and Erin O’Connor as part of the company’s marketing campaign, over 1 million units alone were sold in the UK in a period of just 3 months.

The success continues: we currently supply around 2 million bags for life (made from organic cotton, fair-trade cotton, recycled polyester, non-woven PP and other eco-friendly materials) to various UK clients. This helps our clients demonstrate their credentials as responsible retailers.

But that’s not all. Intelipac’s commitment to hi-tech vacuum technology means we can reduce freight size by as much as 400%. This also serves to lower the cost to our customers.

Total commitment to ethical issues

Intelipac is accredited to both the British Retail Consortium and Institute of Packaging (BRC/IOP). These accreditations mean we can reassure our customers that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure that our products are produced in an ethical and morally responsibly environment.

Intelipac is also a member of SEDEX, an online organisation which proves that the factories we use trade both ethically and lawfully. We also pride ourselves in supporting the local communities surrounding our factories. Just one example is where we provide eye clinics and health screening to local communities in Calcutta, India.

Our supply chains, too, ensure there are no hidden contractors. In short, we are as passionate about transparency as we are about packaging – and have the certificates to prove it!
